Can HA1 and HA2 be routed over a layer 3 connection for Active/Active HA?

We are looking to deploy 2 x PA-3220 for a customer at different sites with BGP for route advertisement. Can the PA-3220 HA1 and HA2 ports be routed over a layer 3 network within different subnets or do they have to be in the same subnets? Is it even possible to route?

@adam_coverdale how are you planning to deploy HA3 by the way? Is there a L2 option available?

I don’t know as I don’t think a L2 option is available? Can it be routed? Or done another way using data ports?

AFAIK it can't be routed as there's no option to add IP addresses, but l2 may be an option since you can also set a DP interface as HA3. haven't seen it set up that way though so just guessing here

Yes, they are routable; For HA1 you just need to input the right remote IP and ensure its gateway is able to route there. For HA2 you need to change the transport mode from Ethernet to IP or UDP (depending if your router is able to route raw IP packets or needs a layer4 header) HA1 should let each side know which IP to communicate HA2 with
